A Day in the Life of Lizzy

Lizzy hit 1 month on January 19th. Janell took her into the doctor’s for a weight check and she weighed 10lbs 14oz. She is now getting into a pretty reasonable schedule for just hitting 5 weeks on Saturday.

• Lizzy usually has her final feeding at 9pm and falls asleep around 11pm.
• She usually wakes up around 2-3am to be fed again. This is usually the only feeding that fluctuates at all, but she usually makes it 4-6 hours from her 9pm feeding which is awesome.
• Shawn gets to do her 6am feeding. It usually works out perfectly to get up and feed her and then have her back to sleep before he has to get ready for work and he loves his special time with Lizzy every morning.
• Lizzy is like clockwork the rest of the day, eating at 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm and then 9pm. She usually eats 2-4 ounces and even seems pretty consistent in how much she eats at each feeding.
  

Throughout the day, Janell puts her in her Little Lamb swing for short periods in between feedings. She does pretty good in this and it allows Janell to have a little time to get things done during the day.


In her spare time, Lizzy enjoys chilling in her Boppy, spending time with her cousin Seth, and playing the piano.




By the way, if you've ever had a rough day and need a pick-me-up, just stick your newborn baby at the piano and let her play you a little tune. I guarantee it will make you feel better. Lizzy is perfect for this with her long fingers and her aptitude for flailing her arms.



We are still pretty new to this parenting thing, but we are grateful to have this much of a schedule at this point. Lizzy is getting to be more fun every day. She is smiling more and absolutely loves to watch her Mommy and Daddy. Shawn is becoming pretty self-conscious about his hair because of how much time Lizzy spends staring at it, but at least she can’t grab it like she does to Janell.

2 and 3 weeks

On January 2^nd, Lizzy turned 2 weeks old. To celebrate, we decided to take a short trip to the Provo Towne Centre Mall to see where Janell’s labor started. We took a picture of the spot where Janell was standing when her water broke (below). At her 2 week checkup Lizzy weighed 9 lbs 4 oz and was 22 inches long. She is in the 78^th percentile for her weight, the 36^th for the size of her head (which seems a good size to us, but I guess it’s on the small side), and her daddy is very proud that she is in the 96^th percentile for her height.


It’s hard to believe Lizzy is now only 3 weeks old. It seems like she’s been part of our family for much longer than that. Our life has already changed in ways we never imagined. We didn't know we could get so excited about a burp or a bowel movement. And it turns out we were getting about 3 hours more sleep than we really needed.

I know it's not nice to laugh at a newborn baby, but man this was funny.

Lizzy is such a sweet little baby. For her first couple of weeks, the only time she would cry is when her stomach hurt. I think her parents cried more than she did during that time. In the last week she has started crying for other things like hunger and when she gets tired or loses her binky. We’re glad that she is communicating more now, but it is also getting more difficult to know what she wants. It is definitely harder and more stressful than we ever imagined, but there is nothing better than when she gives you a big smile and then falls asleep in your arms. Every baby is a miracle and a blessing, and we are so thrilled to have this beautiful little baby in our lives.
